I have been writing poetry for over 25 years. I don't seek publication much, preferring to write for my own spiritual progression. Somehow I've been published and featured by several print and web publications. I was a featured poet for the Bottled Poetry series of readings at the Gloria Ferrer Winery in California's Sonoma valley, and was chosen as a selected reader at the San Luis Obispo poetry festival.

Later, the SLO Poetry group asked me back as a featured reader for their monthly meeting. That was fun. There is a lot of talent in that town, and hospitality.

In 2003, I spent a month in residency in Ireland at Salmon Publishing in Knockeven, County Clare. Living near the Cliffs of Moher was extrodinary. I fell in love with Ireland and the gaelic-speaking island of Innish Man.

Influences

Like all writers, I'm influenced by those I read most. I love Rumi, Hafiz, Whitman, Rilke, Mary Oliver, Antonio Machado, and Seamus Heany.

I read and admire Barry Spack's works. I adore the way he brings a gentle joy, wisdom, and happiness -- a frolic, almost -- into his poetry so that the depth of what he writes sits there shining, clear, and accessible for any reader who wants to look closely and find their own reflection

The Promise of An Ocean

Kathy Kieth, publisher of the Snake (a local magazine of poetry) chose "The Promise of an Ocean" for volume 12, published December, 2006.
